We’re kicking off a new weekly series called “Quaranthings” with my favorite of all the things, homewares.
Listen, things are bonkers right now. It’s taken me all of a month to settle into this new normal and begin to create some semblance of structure in my daily life. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still taking plenty of time to stress about the world, the health of our community, the negligence of my extroverted self, work and finances – but I’ve become more intentional about how the day goes because, well, my emotional wellbeing depends on it.
A major contribution to this newfound sense of stability has been leaning into daily rituals like cooking, lighting candles, meditation, after-dinner walks, and evening tea. Okay and since you didn’t ask, yes, my day starts with a feisty cup of mushroom coffee that roundhouse kicks me in the brain because I’ll buy almost anything Tim Ferriss sells me.
As my social and work obligations have waned, my capacity to scour the internet for pretty things (between episodes of Westworld and bouts of aggressive snacking) has waxed. There is something inexplicably special about drinking coffee from a handmade ceramic mug or listening to a perfectly curated playlist while tackling those project you’ve – okay, I’VE – been putting off. I’m not naive to the fact that it may seem imprudent to spend money on “things” given the fragility of the economy and the unpredictability of the future… but if thoughtful design brings you as much joy as it does me, then I hope you’ll at least take a little pleasure in browsing this list.
[For the skeptics, there’s nothing in it for me in sharing the products below – I just love them, use them, and want them.]
